Director

Rick Marriner is a senior executive and advisor with more than 25 years of experience at the intersection of energy trading, operations research, and global supply chain optimization. He has led trading and analytics organizations across major energy platforms, including roles as CEO of RIL USA and Vice President of Trading, Optimization, and Analytics at Parkland Corporation, where he focused on integrating advanced data systems with physical operations to drive performance and resilience.

Through his firm, Proximal Research Studio, Rick advises boards and operators on value chain strategy, risk management, and the practical application of quantitative models to real-world systems. His work increasingly focuses on the convergence of energy, agriculture, and environmental markets.

Rick is an advocate for emerging models that align economic incentives with soil health and carbon outcomes. He is currently engaged in exploring “Permanent Farming” systems as a viable alternative to conventional CAFO-based beef production, with particular emphasis on integrating renewable natural gas, nutrient cycling, and soil amendment pathways into scalable, market-driven solutions.

He brings a pragmatic, systems-level perspective to sustainability—grounded in decades of operating experience—focused on solutions that work economically first, and environmentally as a consequence.
